Given the escalating situation that is happening near Sharm, I would like to know what the universities/teams for the upcoming ICPC World Finals are thinking about their trips.

Will you:

Travel as planned
Shorten your itinerary
Cancel your trip

Or are there some other measures that your university/team is preparing? Is there any penalty for not coming to this specific WF, and are there any updates from the ICPC itself?

For now, I hear the news about places which is not far from Sharm El-Sheikh, but I don't hear so much news about Egypt and the Sharm resort itself. So my current understanding is that there is no imminent life-threatening risk.

Maybe there can be a risk that I don't know yet, or the situation may change by time. I think we should have real-time information for the situation, so if something happens, I think someone need to let us know about it.

About penalties: As far as I read 2023 ICPC World Finals Rules — Sharm el-Sheikh, there was a sentence which drew my attention (in Team Requirements section):

If a team member is unwilling, unable, or unfit to compete in the World Finals, the coach must notify the ICPC Contest Manager in a timely manner. A team member who is unwilling or unfit to compete in the World Finals will be disqualified from further ICPC competitions. The team member may appeal disqualification to the Appeals Committee.

I don't know what it really means, but I think it means that there are some penalties.

I think that rule is there for a different purpose (preventing universities from "hijacking" a team that qualified for WF to send other people instead). I would hope that ICPC is understanding if someone were to drop out due to the risk of the situation.

ICPC organizers trying to hold WF in a non-dictatorship country without constant confliction in neighbor challenge (Impossible).

Kinda worried, but right now there seems to be no threats to travel to Egypt. Don't expect there to be any clarity any time soon though

I suppose you haven't seen the hotel, but it sounds like it is going to be great experience: 3 people sleeping in 2 pax room

Does your team's room only have two beds? My team is also assigned to one room, but at least it looks like the room is designed for triple occupancy...

I'm judging by the photos I found online, if you google the name of the hotel.

Many people forgot that the originally planned Egypt world finals is not in 2022, but instead in 2011. Probably people know what happened in Egypt that year, so 2011 world finals ended up in Orlando

Indeed, we had plane tickets for that one already and everything was set, and after the revolution it was moved very quickly to Orlando, about a month before the originally planned date of the 2011 World Finals.

Also that is the reason why all of the Orlando 2011 World Finals problems have a story about the desert, mummies, pharaohs building pyramids, hyeroglyphs and such ancient Egypt stuff.

Well they did WF 2020 in midst of covid. They might just move on, even if the war spread to Sinai
