Deleting Comments

Recently I have noticed several of my comments end up deleted. I don't think my comments were unhelpful, spammy, or otherwise something that shouldn't be seen. In fact, I'm quite confident that the reason they aren't there anymore is because the are children in the reply tree to some comment that was deleted earlier up the chain (and it was that comment that was unhelpful or could otherwise be deemed inappropriate).

Here are two examples:

There are some other examples as well of similar nature.

Why/how is it happening?

Who is making these decisions, and on what criteria? To me it isn't obvious. Are there just some special users who have the ability to delete other people's stuff? Is that an IGM/LGM privilege that I just haven't earned yet? Is Mike manually deleting rows in some SQL database every time this happens?

Why subtree delete?

In lots of these cases, I remember interesting and valid things being said by myself and others that are no longer visible. Is it intentional to delete the entire subtree of comments rather than just the egregious one(s)? I suppose for the case of deleting blogs it may be a different story; I can imagine technical difficulties that would arise when trying to hide a blog, but not its comments. But what about comment subtrees?

that was somehow deleted

That was a standard procedure: the blog is moved to drafts, all my comments and replies to them are deleted, I got a 49-hours mute

    I'm not familiar with the standard procedure of my stuff getting deleted/muted. Who moves it to drafts and on what criteria? And does the same thing happen with comments?

      I don't know who does this, but let's call this person Ekim. When Ekim sees some content written by me which he/she considers trash/vulgar etc. he/she mutes me. The mute includes:
      - a system message in the Russian language about the mute;
      - an email with the same content;
      - removing recent blogs to drafts;
      - deleting recent comments and private messages;
      - preventing me from writing blogs, comments, and messages for 49 hours.

I wish they at least provide a reason for deletion/mute. I've been muted once and had no idea why I got muted. Asked about it to mike but got no response either. If I did something wrong, how could I fix it without knowing what I did wrong?

Apparently spam exists. Someone has to decide what is spam and what is not. There is always a gray area for these decisions, and they can always appear arbitrary from different angles.

If I were the person who has to make these decisions, I would not discuss the issue.

Once I tagged my friends and someone decided that it's trash and deleted my comments with 48 hours read-only.

P.S. That's a great plan, Walter. That's f***in' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss f***in' watch.

To be honest I don't even understand why rotavirus's blog was deleted in all. It wasn't type of blog to be censored, it was just his opinion. It looks very bad to delete opinions(doesn't matter who writes it). There are a lot of trash blogs from grays that are not deleted and they are like much worse than deleted blog. This type of behaviour is bullshit imo.

    Yes, I think Eva's blog was rude (title was something like why is anton the worst) but I think the discussion that came out of it was interesting and valuable.

    The subtree deletion behavior is really unfortunate, I think maybe after people comment on your blog it shouldn't be deleted anymore (or maybe the offensive parts only should be deleted/redacted).

Mike has trained an AI to parse offensive comments, if the comment has more than 50% chance of being written by rotavirus then user is automatically banned.
